Live Resin vs. Rosin vs. Distillate

Three of the most common concentrate types, explained in plain language — how each is made, how they differ in flavor and potency, and how to pick what's right for you.

It Starts With the Plant Material

The biggest difference between concentrate types often comes down to what plant material is used and how it's handled before extraction. Fresh-frozen flower, cured flower, and trim all behave differently — and that's where "live" concentrates get their name.

Live Resin

Live resin is made from cannabis flower that's frozen immediately after harvest — rather than dried and cured first — then extracted using solvents while still fresh. Because the plant material never fully dries, live resin tends to preserve more of the original terpenes, often resulting in a more aromatic, full-flavored concentrate.

Live Rosin

Live rosin starts the same way — fresh-frozen flower — but skips solvents entirely. Instead, it uses only heat and pressure to squeeze the concentrate out of the plant material. Because nothing but heat and pressure touches the product, live rosin is often marketed as a premium "solventless" option.

Distillate

Distillate is a highly refined extract that's been through additional purification steps, stripping away most plant compounds (including many terpenes) to produce a nearly flavorless, odorless concentrate with very high THC content. It's a common base for vape cartridges and many edibles because of its consistency and potency.

Which Should You Choose?

If flavor and aroma are your priority — for dabbing, especially — live resin or live rosin are popular picks. If you want something more discreet and potent, especially for vaping, distillate is the common choice. There's no wrong answer; it comes down to what you're looking for in the experience.

Concentrates FAQ

What is live resin?

Live resin is a cannabis concentrate made from flower that's frozen immediately after harvest, then extracted using solvents while still fresh. This process preserves more of the plant's original terpenes, often resulting in a more flavorful and aromatic concentrate.

What is live rosin and how is it different?

Live rosin is made the same way as live resin — from fresh-frozen flower — but uses only heat and pressure (no solvents) to extract the concentrate. It's often considered a more "solventless" premium option.

What is distillate?

Distillate is a highly refined, often nearly flavorless and odorless cannabis extract, commonly used in vape cartridges and edibles. It typically has very high THC concentration but lacks the full terpene profile found in live resin or rosin.

Which concentrate type should I choose?

If flavor and aroma are your priority, live resin or live rosin are popular choices. If you want a more discreet, potent option for vaping, distillate is common. Ask our staff what's currently in stock and they can walk you through the differences in person.
